Our New Identity as Repair and Share Foyle
We are excited to introduce our new identity as Repair and Share Foyle. As an independent Community Interest Company, we have evolved beyond our origins as Repair Café Foyle to embrace a broader mission. Our new branding reflects our commitment to innovation, independence, and disruption in how we approach waste and community engagement.
What Our Logo Represents
The House
The house symbolises our mission to revolutionise how we view household waste. We aim to disrupt the status quo where we take, make, use, and dispose of items. We want to encourage everyone to prioritise repair and reuse over disposal. Imagine when your kettle breaks, or you decide to change the colour scheme of your kitchen; instead of heading straight to the recycling centre, you think: Can it be fixed or reused instead? By changing household attitudes, we aim to make repair and reuse second nature, benefiting both the planet and your wallet.
The house also represents community and belonging. It’s about sitting at the kitchen table, having a cuppa, and sewing a button. It’s your dad showing you how to change a fuse in a plug. It’s about neighbours helping neighbours. Our door is always open, inviting everyone to join our community of repair and reuse.
The Plug
The plug in our logo has a dual meaning. First, it represents our commitment to tackling Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE), the fastest-growing waste stream globally. At our repair café events, electrical items are by far the most common type of item we fix. From hairdryers to hoovers, we want to prevent as many electrical items as possible from ending up in the bin.
Secondly, the plug symbolises our ability to connect with communities. We strive to be accessible to all by hosting repair cafés in different venues each month. While we now have a base, our portable nature allows us to be “plugged in” anywhere!
The Lightning Bolt
The lightning bolt signifies our passion for innovation. We are change-makers, putting the spark into community action. Our mission is to generate ideas that change attitudes towards waste, repair, reuse, the sharing economy, and the circular economy.
Our Bold Colours
Our new colours are as bold as our vision. We are not afraid to stand out and demonstrate that being different is powerful. Sticking with the linear economy won’t bring about change. We want to challenge these ‘norms’ and foster a community of reuse, repair, and sharing. Our goal is to showcase a circular economy that benefits everyone.
Moving Forward
As a new Community Interest Company, our new branding captures our mission and vision. While we are grateful for our past branding and the journey it took us on, we are excited about the future. We love our new logo and believe that it will propel us forward in our mission to create a more sustainable world, one fix at a time.
